There are steps that need to be taken before you are able to realize your dream of becoming a dentist in Bakersfield. First you need to pass the Dental Admission Test which you should get ready and take one year before you expect to enter the school of dentistry. This admission test is just one of the many challenges you would have to face in dental school. By passing this test, you will show your capacity to succeed academically. It is only given to aspiring students who have accomplished courses in biology and chemistry in college for at least a year. If you have been planning for a career in dentistry all along, you should apply for admission when you are still in your junior year.  

You need to spend two years in college and four years in dental school before you can complete your education and become a Bakersfield dentist. If you want to further your studies by specializing, you would need an additional two years in school. The dental curriculum is comprised of three comprehensive areas. There are the basic health sciences which are made up of anatomy, biochemistry, histology and other related sciences with concentration on dental aspects. Another division of the dental curriculum is the application of the covered courses on actual patients. The third division is practice management which involves discussions with patients, learning how to use the dental office and how to manage its staff, managing the business side of the profession, practicing dental ethics, and involvement in community health.
